Fraser Drew – Civil Engineering
Degree and year of study:
Civil Engineering, Year 3 (2011/12)
How have you been involved with representing students?
I’m just starting my second year as a School Officer representing the Civil and Structural Engineering department both within SBE and at the Union. I’ve also attended NUS Scotland’s Council and Conference events, representing all HW students on a national level. I’ve taken part in the universities ELIR review and an internal review of the mathematics department.
What are you looking forward to the most during next year in your role as school officer?
Ensuring the plans we made in SBE last year to improve representation are implemented, and that they do what they’re meant to – make sure students know what to do when they have a problem, or who to speak to if they want their voice to be heard.
Is there anything else you’ve been involved with during your time at HW?
Spending far too much time at the union during elections. And drinking pints.
What are you looking forward to the most during next year?
Pints. Constructionarium, a new pilot being run in SBE which, if successful, will be run annually, and take students to a field where they will build something in a week, with the aim of giving students real experience on site, helping them to design structures that are actually build-able!
